535 Tchoupitoulas St.

August 3, 2019 - September 3, 2019

An intersection of the prevailing cultural attitudes that have shaped New Orleans’ architecture, this show is a look at the influences of French, Spanish, and American styles, overlain with the distinctive Creole character that have become synonymous with the city’s unique neighborhoods. From the grand Greek Revival homes in the Garden District to the colorful Creole cottages in the Marigny, the city’s history and dominant social trends can be witnessed from front porch to inner courtyard.

This curated body of work will also explore the peculiar balance between commanding municipal spaces, overshadowing private backstreets, enveloped in their own intimate histories. Like New Orleans itself, Building Blocks, the culture of architecture in New Orleans is a decorative pattern of color, form, and sense of place.

Exhibiting Artists: Amzie Adams, David Armentor, David Bergeron, Rayne Bories, Drew Cooke, André Courville, Alex Demyan, Paige DeVries, Ramiro Diaz, Brandy Dufrene, Cheryl Anne Grace, Connie Kittok, Carlos Mendieta, Lee Morais, Sarah Nelson, Eric Nunez, Keith Oelschlager, Queen Hope Parker, Joel Scilley, Maddie Stratton, John Turner and Debbie Willson.

This is an interactive exhibition where party go'ers can scan the QR code to discover more about the artist, learn the inspiration behind the work or shop online.

Oelschlager teaches at Arvada West High School and was featured alumni artist Austin Parkhill’s teacher.
